WE LIFT LA & Former Foster Youth Beat the Heat at Summer Barbecue
That’s right— WE LIFT LA gathered together the former foster youth, board members, friends, and family for a summer barbecue over the weekend!

Engaging Former Foster Youth
Many of our former foster youth are college students on summer break. Although some of them have found a summer job or internship on which to focus their efforts, life can slow down for young adults during the summer months.
Rather than leave former foster youth to squander their idle time during the off months, WE LIFT LA strives to maintain regular involvement in their lives in the form of smoothie outings, one-on-one lunch dates, and group events. This frequent contact is key to maintaining the positive momentum they’ve built during the school year.
What better way to beat the California summer heat and nurture a sense of unity than to bring our youth together to throw a summer barbecue?
Supporting Independence in Our Youth
WE LIFT LA aims to encourage former foster kids to become independent and self-sufficient individuals. Government support programs may provide stipends for living expenses or subsidize college tuition but government aid does dry up after a certain age and most young adults don’t have the foresight to make those limited funds last. WE LIFT LA stresses the development of useful financial skills in former foster youth.
No Such Thing as a Free Lunch (or Barbecue!)
Like any non-profit company, WE LIFT LA relies on the support of donors like you year-round. With our annual fundraiser event coming up in October, we’re also accepting tax-deductible donations in the form of prizes for our silent auction and VIP table sponsors.
WE LIFT LA recognizes that throwing money at a problem is not always an adequate solution. Instead, we’re working towards meeting the foundational needs of these young people and guiding them on their way. With your help, WE LIFT LA can grow and reach it’s next tangible goal to provide safe, affordable housing to another group of five former foster youth while instilling basic life skills for future success.
